Salvation Army Trading Company wins Drapers Award at the HAC in London

The results of the Drapers Awards 2023 were revealed on 15 November at The HAC, London, where the fashion industry came together at a glittering gala ceremony to celebrate future-thinking fashion retail.

The fashion industry is undergoing rapid change. After three years of disruption from Covid, supply chain chaos and the cost of living crisis, fashion businesses are taking meaningful action to build back better.

Now in their 32nd year, the prestigious Drapers Awards shine a spotlight on the best of the best across the industry, placing a growing focus on business values and achievements that extend beyond financial performance.

The awards cover the entire spectrum of fashion retail. Categories include Best Place to Work, the Diversity and Inclusion Award, Womenswear and Menswear Brands of the Year, Pureplay of the Year, and Retailer of the Year.

Salvation Army Trading Company Limited (SATCoL), has won the Disruptor Award and was praised by the panel of expert judges. Judges were struck by how SATCoL is disrupting the market, supported by its clear plan and strong purpose. They noted how it is doing something that retailers find very hard to tackle themselves.

SATCoL has invested in ground-breaking and unique technology which enhances its existing nationwide textile reuse and recycling schemes.

SATCoL’s advanced Fibersort system, enables accurate sorting, grading of non-wearable clothing and textiles by fibre type, blend and colour for recycling back into the textiles supply chain. In June 2023, SATCoL launched additional technology, Project Re:claim in partnership with corporate wear specialist brand Project Plan B as part of the next step towards SATCoL’s ambition to create the UK’s first fibre farm and to support their aims to massively scale up textile-to-textile recycling of all types of materials.

Jill Geoghegan, Drapers editor, said:

“To say fashion retail has faced many challenges this year is an understatement, but Drapers is proud to support, recognise and reward the best of this resilient sector. Drapers Awards are a celebration of the creativity, innovation and camaraderie of the people that make up this important industry. Congratulations to all of our winners and finalists.”
